BACKGROUND: This series of 5 postcards was issued to commemorate Dürer Year in 1971. Albrecht Dürer was a German painter, mathmetician, and art theorist who was born in Nürnberg on 21st May 1471 and was considered to be one of the most notable artists of the Renaissance period. This series of cards celebrates his life and works 500 years after his birth.

SPECIAL CANCELLATION: SEE BELOW

FEATURES: This card measures 148 x 105mm and was produced on white card stock. The front of the card features a vertical dividing line separating the sender and destination sections. The left-hand side has four dotted, and one solid line for the sender's details. The text consists the words "Absender", "Postleitzahl" and "(Straße und Hausnummer oder Postfach)"" . In addition, there are two lines of text along the lower left edge of the card that reads "A. Dürer, Bildnis, Ausschnitt aus dem - Rosenkranzfest, | Nationalgalerie, Prag".

The destination section contains 6 dotted lines and a single solid line for the destination address as well as texts "POSTKARTE", "Postleitzahl" and "(Straße und Hausnummer oder Postfach)" . The pre-printed stamp is a 20 Pf with Dürer's monogram and the inscription "DEUTSCHE BUNDESPOST | 1971 | DÜRERJAHR NÜRNBERG"

The image on the reverse of the card is an oil painting entitled "The Feast of the Rosary" by Dürer.
