BACKGROUND: Issued on 13th Jun 1996 to commemorate the 1996 International Postage Stamp Fair held in ESSEN from 13th to 15th Jun 1996.

FEATURES: This card measures 148 x 105mm and was produced on white coloured card. The left-hand side is the sender's section and contains four dotted lines for the sender's address and the words "Absender", "(Straße und Hausnummer oder Postfach)", "(Postleitzahl)" and "(Ort)". There are additional lines of text below the image that read "11.International Briefmarken-Messe | mit Telefonkarten 13.-15.JUNI 1996"

The right-hand or destination section contains four dotted lines for the destination address as well as the words "Postkarte", "(Straße und Hausnummer oder Postfach)", "(Postleitzahl)" and "(Bestimmungsort)".

The reverse of the card is blank and 380,000 cards were printed. Sale of the cards was at the fair itself in ESSEN from 13th to 15th Jun 1996 and through postage stamp mailing offices. First Day cancellations were available in BERLIN and BONN.

The pre-printed stamp is a multicoloured Michel 1861, 80 Pf stamp and has the inscription "FÜR | SPORT | DEUTSCHLAND | Carl Schuhmann" .
